What poly-bagging actually controls

An unsealed bag, a missing warning, or a barcode the receiver cannot scan is not a packaging problem. It is a receiving exception you find out about after the inventory has left your hands.

An Amazon poly bagging service preps units in sealed polybags that meet Amazon’s FBA packaging requirements before they reach a fulfillment center. The work is exact: bags must be transparent, fully sealed, and carry the suffocation warning when the opening is five inches or wider, and the barcode has to be scannable through the bag or applied to the outside. Loose items, exposed multi-packs, and anything Amazon classifies as small, fragile, or able to separate in the bin get bagged so they arrive as one scannable unit.

Done correctly, poly-bagging protects the unit in transit and through bin storage and removes a category of receiving exceptions before they happen. At Marketplace Prep it is part of FBA Prep and runs in our software, the same system that builds and executes your Seller Central shipment plan. Each unit is verified against its FNSKU during prep, so the bag, the label, and the shipment record line up. That is the difference between bagging units and bagging units that are accounted for.

How we handle it

Poly-bagging failures are a common reason FBA shipments get flagged or charged unplanned prep fees at the dock. Five steps keep that from happening.

01

Inspection before the bag closes

Units get a condition and quality check while they are still open to us. A defect caught at our bench is a return avoided at the fulfillment center and a removal fee you never pay.

02

Bagged to the spec the unit carries

Transparent bags, full seal, suffocation warning applied when the opening meets Amazon’s five-inch threshold. We bag to the requirement for the unit rather than a one-size default.

03

Sets and multi-packs sealed as one unit

Sets and multi-packs are combined and bagged as one sellable unit with the right markings before labeling, so they receive as a single FNSKU instead of splitting in the bin.

04

Barcode verified against Seller Central

Every bagged unit is checked against the FNSKU our software reads from Seller Central. The barcode is placed to scan through or on the bag, so receiving reads it the first time.

05

Reconciled to one shipment record

Poly-bagging runs alongside FNSKU labeling and shipment plan execution in our software, so counts, labels, and the FBA shipment stay reconciled against one source.

Who this is built for

If you ship apparel, soft goods, small loose items, or multi-packs that can separate in a bin, poly-bagging is not optional at the fulfillment center.

A fit

  • Wholesale sellers moving cased goods that ship loose and have to be bagged before they can go to FBA.
  • Private label brands whose units need a sealed and marked presentation in the bin.
  • Established sellers shipping 3,000 units a month or more, where a bagging miss repeats across every unit in the shipment.
  • Sellers who want poly-bagging run as one line in a larger FBA Prep need across receiving, labeling, and shipment execution.

Not a fit

  • Volume under 500 units a month. The reconciliation work costs more than it saves at that size.
  • Hazmat products. We do not handle them.
  • Anyone looking for a blanket promise before the engagement is scoped.

Questions we get

What is an Amazon poly bagging service?

It is a prep service that seals FBA units in polybags that meet Amazon’s packaging requirements before they reach a fulfillment center. The bag must be transparent and fully sealed, carry a suffocation warning when the opening is five inches or wider, and keep the unit’s barcode scannable. At Marketplace Prep it runs inside FBA Prep, in the same software that executes your Seller Central shipment plan.

Does Amazon require products to be poly-bagged?

Amazon requires poly-bagging for specific categories, including soft goods, apparel, loose items, and units that can separate or be damaged in a bin. Bags must be sealed, transparent, and marked with the suffocation warning at the five-inch opening threshold. Whether a given SKU needs bagging depends on the product, which we confirm during prep.

What happens if poly-bagging is done incorrectly?

An unsealed bag, a missing suffocation warning, or a barcode the receiver cannot scan can get the shipment flagged or hit with unplanned prep charges at the fulfillment center. Those exceptions surface after the inventory has left your hands. Bagging to spec and verifying the barcode before the shipment ships removes that risk.

How does Marketplace Prep verify each bagged unit?

Every unit is checked against the FNSKU our software reads from Seller Central, and the barcode is placed to scan through or on the bag. Because poly-bagging runs in the same system that builds and executes the FBA shipment plan, the bag, the label, and the shipment record stay reconciled.

Does Marketplace Prep poly-bag for wholesale and private label sellers?

Yes. Poly-bagging is part of FBA Prep and supports Wholesale Prep and Private Label Prep, including multi-packs and bundled sets bagged as a single sellable unit. We do not handle hazmat products, or sourcing outside private label, wholesale, and brand-exclusive relationships.

What volume do I need to qualify?

Marketplace Prep works with established sellers shipping 500 or more units per month, and the engagement fits established brands at 3,000 units a month and up. Lead times and scope are set per engagement after we review your SKU mix and bagging requirements on a scoping call.

How is poly-bagging priced?

Standard prep, poly-bagging included, is billed at the published per-unit tiers on our prep pricing page. Non-standard bagging is quoted once the scope is defined. Schedule a call to walk through your needs.

Need an Amazon poly bagging service? Let’s scope it.

We do not make blanket promises. We scope every engagement. Tell us your SKU mix, bagging requirements, and volume, and we will build a plan that fits.
