What private label prep actually risks
You own the brand, the packaging, and the listing. A mislabeled unit or a non-compliant carton does not just cost a reship fee. It puts your reviews, your buy box, and your IPI at risk.
Private label brands carry a different prep risk than wholesale or distribution sellers. Private Label Prep is built around that: custom packaging, insert placement, kitting and bundling, and quality assurance inspection, all executed against the requirements you document at onboarding.
On the FBA side the prep itself is concrete work. FNSKU labeling, poly-bagging, bubble wrapping, case-pack compliance, and shipment plan execution all run through our software, which reads your shipment plan in Seller Central and generates the labels. That tooling matters for private label because your SKUs repeat. Once your prep spec is dialed in, the same brand units get handled the same way every inbound, which is what keeps accuracy high across runs instead of drifting cycle to cycle.
When prep is done wrong, Amazon does the correcting for you: fulfillment center rejections, unplanned prep fees, units quarantined or destroyed, and a listing that goes quiet while inventory sits in limbo. We do not absorb that risk with blanket promises. We scope the work, document the spec, and execute it consistently so your brand inventory arrives the way Amazon expects it.
What Private Label Prep covers
These run together on every inbound rather than in a fixed order. The spec you documented at onboarding is the reference each one is executed against.
Spec documented at onboarding
Your packaging, insert placement, bundling configuration, and labeling rules get documented before the first unit moves. We build the workflow around your brand, then execute consistently within it. Scope changes become new line items, not silent variation.
FNSKU labeling by our software
Our software pulls the FNSKU directly off your shipment plan in Seller Central, and the labels are generated and applied here. Accurate labeling is the difference between a clean check-in and a commingling or mislabel problem at the fulfillment center.
Custom packaging and inserts
Poly-bagging, bubble wrapping, insert placement, and kitting or bundling are handled to your documented spec. For private label, packaging is part of the brand, so it is treated as a quality requirement rather than a generic step.
Case-pack and compliance inspection
Inventory is inspected and built to Amazon case-pack compliance before it ships. Quality assurance and inspection catch the defects, miscounts, and packaging issues that trigger fulfillment center rejections.
FBA shipment plan execution
The shipment plan is built in Seller Central and executed by our software, and inbound freight is coordinated through Amazon Freight when you need it. You get visibility into what shipped and where, without chasing us for status.
WhatsApp-first communication
Each brand gets a dedicated WhatsApp group from onboarding. When something changes with your inventory, you hear it from us first, including the news you would rather not get.
Who this is built for
The model works for brands shipping consistent volume on a repeatable SKU mix, where a documented spec gets executed the same way every inbound.
A fit
- Established private label brands shipping 3,000 units a month or more on a repeatable SKU mix.
- Brands that own their SKUs and source private label, wholesale, or brand-exclusive inventory.
- Sellers who have run FBA long enough to know what a shipment plan and an FNSKU are.
- Brands with a low-to-moderate SKU count relative to volume, where prep stays cleanest across runs.
Not a fit
- Volume under 500 units a month.
- Sourcing models outside private label, wholesale, or brand-exclusive relationships.
- Sellers who want the lowest per-unit rate as the deciding factor. We compete on accuracy and communication, not on being the cheapest.
- High SKU fragmentation with low per-SKU volume. We flag it and scope it carefully rather than rush it.
Questions we get
What does FBA prep for private label brands include?
It includes FNSKU labeling generated from your Seller Central shipment plan, poly-bagging, bubble wrapping, custom packaging and insert placement, kitting and bundling, quality assurance inspection, Amazon case-pack compliance, and FBA shipment plan execution. The exact scope is documented per brand at onboarding so the same units are prepped the same way on every inbound.
Is FNSKU labeling required for private label inventory?
Yes. Transparency enrollment does not replace it: a Transparency code authenticates the unit while the FNSKU tracks it to your account, and Amazon’s own label types are built to carry both. The narrow exception is a Brand Registry brand owner approved to use manufacturer barcodes. Private label SKUs need an accurate FNSKU so Amazon can identify and route your units correctly. Our software pulls the FNSKU off your shipment plan in Seller Central, and we generate and apply the labels as part of the prep run.
What happens if private label prep is done incorrectly?
Incorrect prep leads to FC rejections, unplanned prep fees charged by Amazon, units quarantined or destroyed, and inventory that sits unsellable while your listing goes quiet. Because you own the brand and the listing, those errors hit your reviews and buy box directly, which is why inspection and accurate labeling are built into the process.
Does Marketplace Prep handle custom branded packaging and inserts?
Yes. Custom packaging, insert placement, bubble wrapping, and kitting or bundling are part of Private Label Prep and are handled to the spec you document at onboarding. For private label brands, packaging is treated as a brand and quality requirement, not a generic step.
What volume do I need to qualify for private label prep?
There is a floor of 500 units per month and an ideal fit at 3,000 or more. The model works best for established sellers with a repeatable SKU mix and a low-to-moderate SKU count relative to volume.
How is private label prep priced?
Standard prep is billed at the published per-unit tiers on our prep pricing page, with every standard step included. Custom packaging or kitting is quoted once we understand your SKU mix and requirements. Schedule a call to scope it.
How long does private label prep take?
Lead times are scoped per engagement based on your volume, SKU complexity, and current queue. We do not publish blanket turnaround times. The default is accuracy first: prep done right so units are not rejected at the FC. Your specific lead time is documented in your service agreement.
Do you arrange inbound freight to Amazon for private label inventory?
Yes. Freight Booking is a separate service line that coordinates Amazon Freight booking, LTL coordination, BOL generation, and carrier scheduling from our Fort Worth facility. It pairs with Private Label Prep when your shipment plan calls for freight rather than parcel.
Ready to scope your private label prep?
Every engagement is custom-scoped. Tell us your SKU mix, monthly volume, and packaging requirements, and we will build a plan that fits your brand.
