DTC Kitting and Bundling Fulfillment for Ecommerce Orders

DTC kitting and bundling fulfillment for brands that sell gift sets and multi-item bundles through their own store. We build each bundle in ShipHero from its components, pick and pack it as one order, and add the printed inserts and branded packaging your supplier sends us.

What a bundle is once it reaches the warehouse

When a bundle is tracked as its own pile of stock, your store can sell sets the shelf cannot build. Tracking it through its components closes that gap.

A bundle in your store is one product with one price. In the warehouse it is a recipe: a set of component SKUs, each with a quantity, that has to come together in one box. Kitting and bundling fulfillment is the work of keeping that recipe accurate from the store listing through to the pack station.

We run it on ShipHero, our warehouse management system. A bundle is set up as a virtual kit, a SKU with no inventory of its own. Its available count is calculated from the components on hand, so a bundle cannot sell more than its parts, and a component sold on its own draws from the same stock as the bundles that contain it. Bundles a manufacturer has already packed together are received as their components for the same reason.

Most bundles have to arrive complete, so they are set up as Standard kits, which never ship partially or with a missing component. Branded mailers, printed inserts and marketing collateral are custom work on request: your supplier ships them to us, and they go into the order to your spec.

A bundle is a recipe of component SKUs, so its count comes from the parts on hand and it can never sell more than the shelf can build.

How we run a bundle from setup to doorstep

Six steps, in the order they happen, from the first configuration to the tracking number on your customer’s order.

01

Define the kit in ShipHero

Each bundle becomes a kit SKU: a list of component SKUs and the quantity of each. A set of three candles in different scents is three SKUs at one each. The configuration is set before the first order and becomes the spec the pack station works from.

02

Receive components, not bundles

Components arrive and are received as their own SKUs. That includes sets a manufacturer has already packed together, because ShipHero tracks every kit through its parts. The bundle on the shelf is a count derived from what is on hand.

03

Connect the bundle to your store

The kit SKU is the SKU your Shopify or WooCommerce bundle listing carries, connected through ShipHero. The available bundle count is calculated from the components on hand, so the listing cannot sell sets the shelf cannot build.

04

Pick and pack as one order

When an order lands, the components are picked together and packed as one shipment. A bundle set up as a Standard kit cannot ship partially or with a component missing, so a customer who bought the set receives the set.

05

Add your inserts and packaging

Printed inserts, marketing collateral and branded mailers that your supplier ships to us go into the order to the spec you document at onboarding. This is custom work on request, scoped alongside the kit itself.

06

Ship and report back

The label is generated in ShipHero and the order is marked shipped through your store connection. Questions and exceptions come to you in your dedicated WhatsApp group, so a short component or a spec change is raised directly.

Who this is built for

Kitting earns its keep when the bundle is a product your customers actually buy, and when a wrong or incomplete set would cost you the customer.

A fit

  • Brands selling bundles, gift sets or variety packs through Shopify or WooCommerce, where the set is the product.
  • Brands that sell a component on its own and inside a bundle, and need both listings drawing on one stock count.
  • Brands whose unboxing includes printed inserts or branded mailers produced by their own printer or supplier.
  • Brands running Amazon bundles too, who want the FBA prep and the store orders handled in one warehouse.

Questions we get

What is the difference between a virtual kit and a pre-built kit?

A virtual kit is a bundle SKU that exists in ShipHero as a list of components and quantities. It holds no stock of its own, and the components are picked and packed together when an order arrives. A pre-built kit is assembled before any order exists, which is how a manufacturer-made bundle shows up. Even then it is received into our system as the components it contains, because ShipHero tracks every kit through its parts. Assembling a run of kits ahead of an order spike is custom work we scope on request.

Can I sell a bundle in my store without holding bundle stock?

Yes. The bundle is a kit SKU with no inventory of its own. ShipHero calculates how many bundles can be built from the components on hand, so the bundle cannot sell more than its parts. If a component also sells on its own, both listings draw on the same component stock. Shopify and WooCommerce stores connect through ShipHero.

What happens when one component in a bundle runs out?

A bundle that has to arrive complete is set up as a Standard kit, which cannot ship partially or with a component missing. When that component reaches zero, the bundle’s available count reaches zero with it. ShipHero also supports kits that ship the available components now and the rest later. We set that up only when a brand asks for split shipments.

Can you add my printed inserts or branded mailers to orders?

Yes, as custom work on request. Your printer or supplier ships the inserts, collateral and branded mailers to our Fort Worth warehouse, and they go into orders to the spec you document at onboarding. Each added piece is another step at the pack station, so we scope it against your actual components and order mix.

Do you design or print packaging?

No. We do not design, print or source packaging. Your designer and printer produce the inserts and branded packaging, your supplier ships them to us, and we assemble orders with what you send.

Is this different from Amazon bundle prep?

Yes. Amazon bundle prep builds a finished, labeled unit that ships into Amazon’s fulfillment network and has to meet Amazon’s prep and labeling requirements. This service covers bundles sold through your own store and shipped one order at a time to your customer. If you sell bundles in both places, we run both.

Can you build holiday gift sets?

Yes. A gift set is a kit like any other: define the components, send them in, and list the set in your store. Seasonal sets tend to be short runs with a hard end date, so tell us the components, the order count you expect and when the set comes down, and we plan receiving and pack-station work around it. When the set is retired, the leftover components stay in inventory as their own SKUs. Timing is scoped per engagement, not promised as a blanket turnaround.

Have a bundle to launch? Let’s scope it.

Send us the components in each kit, the stores you sell through and what goes in the box besides the product. We will tell you how we would set it up in ShipHero and what it takes to run.
