What case pack compliance actually controls
Because the case is treated as the unit of receipt, one bad case definition propagates across the whole shipment.
Amazon case pack compliance is the set of rules that govern how multiple units are packed into a single master case for an FBA shipment, and how that case is declared to Amazon. A compliant case pack holds one FNSKU at a fixed quantity per case, every case in the SKU is identical, the case carries its own scannable barcode and weight and dimensions, and the box-content information you submit matches what is physically inside. When you ship case-packed inventory, Amazon expects to scan one case label and trust the declared count instead of hand-counting every unit.
The failure modes are specific and expensive. Mixed quantities across cases, a case heavier than the limit Amazon allows for a single box, missing or unscannable case barcodes, or box-content counts that do not reconcile against the shipment plan all trigger the same outcome at the dock: receiving exceptions, unplanned prep or relabeling charges, and delayed check-in. At Marketplace Prep, case pack compliance is part of FBA Prep and Wholesale Prep, and it runs in our software, which builds and executes the shipment plan off your Seller Central account. The case you build, the label on it, and the count Amazon receives all come from one source.
How we handle it
A case pack is built once and received once, so the order of the checks matters. Six steps stand between a supplier pallet and a clean check-in.
01
Inspection before the case closes
Units get a condition and quality check while the case is still open. A defect caught at our bench is a return avoided at the fulfillment center and a removal fee you never pay.
02
One FNSKU, fixed quantity per case
Each master case holds a single FNSKU at a locked quantity, and every case in the SKU is built identical. Uniform case packs are what let Amazon receive on the case label instead of hand-counting.
03
Weight and dimensions to spec
Each case is weighed and measured and kept within Amazon’s per-box limits. We flag any case that would exceed the threshold and rebuild it before it ships, not after it is flagged at the fulfillment center.
04
Case labels verified against Seller Central
Case and unit barcodes are checked against the FNSKU our software pulls from Seller Central during prep. Labels are placed to scan cleanly at receiving rather than to be rehandled on the dock.
05
Box content that reconciles
Box-content data is generated from the same shipment record that drives the labels. Declared counts match what is physically in the case, so a discrepancy at receiving can be traced back to a record we can produce.
06
Reconciled to one shipment record
Case-pack building runs alongside FNSKU labeling and shipment plan execution in our software, so cases, labels, and the FBA shipment stay reconciled start to finish.
Who this is built for
Since Amazon discontinued its own FBA prep service, the demand for compliant case-pack prep handled outside the fulfillment center has only increased.
A fit
- Wholesale sellers receiving manufacturer cases that do not match Amazon’s case-pack rules.
- Private label brands shipping cased inventory inbound to FBA.
- Sellers whose inventory arrives in supplier cases with mixed counts, no Amazon-ready case labels, or weights over the per-box limit.
- Established sellers shipping 3,000 units a month or more, where case-packed shipments beat unit-by-unit handling.
Not a fit
- Volume under 500 units a month. The reconciliation work costs more than it saves at that size.
- Hazmat products. We do not handle them.
- Anyone looking for a blanket promise before the engagement is scoped.
Questions we get
What is Amazon case pack compliance?
Amazon case pack compliance is the set of rules for how units are packed into master cases for an FBA shipment and how each case is declared to Amazon. A compliant case holds one FNSKU at a fixed quantity, is identical to every other case in the SKU, carries a scannable case barcode with correct weight and dimensions, and matches the box-content data you submit. At Marketplace Prep it runs inside FBA Prep and Wholesale Prep, against the shipment plan in Seller Central.
Does Amazon require case packs to be uniform?
For case-packed FBA shipments, Amazon expects each case to hold a single FNSKU at the same quantity so receiving can scan one case label and trust the declared count instead of hand-counting units. Mixed quantities across cases break that model and cause receiving to fall back to manual handling. Whether a given SKU ships as a case pack or as individual units depends on the product and your plan, which we confirm during prep.
What happens if case pack compliance is done incorrectly?
Mixed case quantities, a missing or unscannable case barcode, a case over Amazon’s per-box weight limit, or box-content counts that do not reconcile can get the shipment flagged, hit with unplanned prep charges, or delayed at check-in. Because the case is the unit of receipt, one bad case definition propagates across the whole shipment. Building cases to spec and reconciling box content before the shipment ships removes that risk.
How does Marketplace Prep verify case pack compliance?
Each case is defined against the FNSKU our software pulls from Seller Central, with a locked per-case quantity, and case and unit barcodes are verified during prep. Box-content data is generated from the same shipment record that drives the labels, so declared counts match what is physically in the case. Because case-pack building runs in the same system that builds and executes the shipment plan, the case, the label, and the shipment record stay reconciled.
Does Marketplace Prep handle case packs for wholesale and private label sellers?
Yes. Case-pack building is part of Wholesale Prep and FBA Prep and supports Private Label Prep, including converting supplier cases with mixed counts into uniform, Amazon-ready case packs. We do not handle hazmat products, or sourcing outside private label, wholesale, and brand-exclusive relationships.
What about cases that exceed Amazon’s weight or size limits?
Every case is weighed and measured during prep and kept within Amazon’s per-box limits. If a supplier case would exceed the threshold, we flag it and rebuild the case to a compliant configuration before it ships, rather than letting it surface as an exception at the fulfillment center.
What volume do I need to qualify?
Marketplace Prep works to a floor of 500 units per month, with the ideal fit at 3,000 a month or more. Lead times and scope are set per engagement after we review your SKU mix, case configurations, and volume on a scoping call.
How is case pack compliance prep priced?
Standard prep is billed at the published per-unit tiers on our prep pricing page, with every standard step included. Unusual case configurations or rework are quoted once the scope is defined. Schedule a call to walk through your needs.
Need Amazon case pack compliance? Let’s scope it.
We do not make blanket promises. We scope every engagement. Tell us your SKU mix, case configurations, and volume, and we will build a plan that fits.
